Attendance and Related Policies

Parent Notes

  • Parents are allotted five (5) notes per school year to cover full-day absences only (individual class period absences are not covered). Parents must email [email protected] to use a parent note.

Medical Notes

  • All doctor, dentist, mental health provider, etc. excuse notes must be faxed directly to our office from the provider. The fax number is (931) 553-1116. If the provider does not have a fax line, they may email the note directly to [email protected]. The email MUST come from the provider.

Other Excuse Notes

  • Court Notes- A picture of the note from the clerks window must be emailed to [email protected].
  • Bereavement- Obituaries, funeral memorial programs, or notes written by funeral directors may be emailed to [email protected].

Attendance Corrections

  • All attendance issues will be corrected by the attendance clerk within 48 hours.

Tardies

  • Students are considered tardy if they join the Zoom session after the class start time.
  • If a student is 10 or more minutes late, they will be marked as “TA” (Tardy Absent) in Powerschool, which counts as a class period absence.

Technical Issues

  • Students experiencing technical issues that prevent class attendance must check in with Tech Support. Failure to do so will count as a class absence.

Make-up Work

  • It is the student’s responsibility to contact their teacher for any make-up work due to absences.
  • According to district policy, students have an equivalent number of days missed to complete the work.

Driver’s License Form

  • The SF-1010 form is required for students applying for a driver’s license.
  • Please call the office to request the form in advance before picking it up.
  • You will be notified when the form is ready; it is valid for 30 days from the date of creation.

Majority Day Absence

  • Students missing the majority of the school day will be marked as absent for that day.

Truancy

  • Under Tennessee’s Compulsory School Attendance Law (TCA-49-6-3001), children are required to attend school each day.
  • Students with five (5) unexcused absences will be required to complete a contract with the school and may be referred to Juvenile Court, in accordance with the CMCSS Progressive Truancy Intervention Plan (STS-P010).

Parent/Guardian Communication

  • Parent Square– Due to the frequency of communication, teachers will use the Parent Square chat as their main source of communication. 
  • Parent/Teacher Meetings– These should be scheduled with the teacher. Guardians and Learning Mentors should not engage in verbal conversation with teachers and students during instruction time.
  • Powerschool– Official attendance and grades are housed in Powerschool. CLICK HERE to access a video on using Powerschool.
